Set up a split test in Shoporama

Detailed guide to setting up a split test in Shoporama with step-by-step instructions.

A split test (also known as an A/B test) lets you test two versions of a page to determine which one converts best. In Shoporama, you can set up split tests directly in the admin panel and let them run until you have enough data to choose a winner.

Split-test-oversigt i Shoporama admin med knappen Ny split-test og en tabel med navn, side, varianter, periode, og status.
The split test overview lists your A/B tests by name, page, number of versions, duration, and status. Click “New Split Test” in the top right corner to create a new test.

How to Set Up a Split Test

  1. Go to Theme in the left-hand menu
  2. Select Webstore and click Themes
  3. Click "Create New Theme"
  4. Give your theme a name (e.g., “Add to Cart Test”)
  5. If desired, specify the number of orders after which the test should be locked (e.g., 500)
  6. Scroll down and select the file you want to A/B test
  7. Click Create

Create your variants

  1. You now have a copy of your file; name it something like "Control" or "Original"
  2. Click Save
  3. Select the file and choose "Copy the selected templates"
  4. Click the pencil icon next to the new copy
  5. Name it (e.g., "Variant B") and make the changes you want to test
  6. Click Save

Important

You must disable caching when running a split test. Otherwise, you risk all visitors seeing the same variant, and the test will be invalid.

Run and evaluate the test

Once your variants are created, Shoporama automatically distributes traffic evenly among them. You can track the results in the admin panel:

  • Conversion rate for each variant
  • Number of visitors who have seen each variant
  • Number of orders from each variant

Lock the test

Once you have enough data (we recommend at least 500 orders in total), you can “lock” the test. After that, only the winning variant will be shown to all visitors.

If you specified a number of orders when setting up the test, it will lock automatically once that number is reached.
