Impressions

Impressions are the number of times an ad, search result or content is shown to a user, regardless of clicks.

What are impressions?

Impressions is a metric that measures how many times an item is shown to users. It counts each impression - not unique users. Impressions are used in SEO, advertising and social media to measure reach and visibility.

Impressions in e-commerce

  • SEO impressions - the number of times your page appears in Google search results
  • Ad impressions - the number of times your Google or Facebook ad appears
  • Product impressions - the number of times a product appears in a category list

Impressions alone don't say much - what matters is the ratio of impressions to clicks (CTR/click-through rate). Many impressions with a low CTR can mean that your title or ad text should be optimized.
