Checkout

Checkout is the part of the purchase process where the customer places their order. This typically includes entering address information, choosing a shipping method, selecting a payment method and finally confirming the order.

What is checkout?

Checkout (also called checkout) is the final steps in an online transaction, from the shopping cart to the order confirmation. A well-designed checkout process is crucial for conversion rates, as many customers abandon their cart if the process is too cumbersome.

Typical steps in checkout

  • Shopping cart - Overview of selected products
  • Customer details - Name, address, email, phone
  • Shipping - Choice of delivery method
  • Payment - Payment method selection and completion
  • Confirmation - Receipt and order confirmation

Optimization

A shorter checkout with fewer fields and clear buttons typically results in higher conversion. Guest purchases (without account creation), autofill and mobile-friendly design are all factors that improve the checkout experience.
