PSD2
What is PSD2?
PSD2 (Payment Services Directive 2) is an EU directive that regulates electronic payments. The most important change for online shops is the requirement for SCA (Strong Customer Authentication) for online payments.
What does PSD2 mean for online shops?
PSD2 requires online payments to be verified with at least two of three factors:
- Something you know - PIN or password
- Something you have - phone or hardware token
- Something you are - fingerprint or facial recognition
In practice, this means that customers must authorize payments via their bank's app (e.g. MyID or 3D Secure). Shoporama's payment integrations support 3D Secure automatically, so as a merchant you don't need to do anything extra.
