PSD2
What is PSD2?
PSD2 (Payment Services Directive 2) is an EU directive that regulates electronic payments. The most significant change for online stores is the requirement for SCA (Strong Customer Authentication) for online payments.
What does PSD2 mean for online stores?
PSD2 requires that online payments be verified using at least two of three factors:
- Something you know —PIN or password
- Something you have – a phone or hardware token
- Something you are – fingerprint or facial recognition
In practice, this means that customers must authorize payments through their bank’s app (e.g., MitID or 3D Secure). Shoporama’s payment integrations automatically support 3D Secure, so you, as an online store owner, don’t need to do anything extra.
