Image name in the URL
Guide to getting the product image name in the URL for better SEO.
When you upload an image to Shoporama, it is automatically renamed to a numeric ID. If, for SEO purposes, you want the image’s filename to reflect the product’s name, you can do so via the image’s description.
Here’s how
- Go to Products and click Edit on the product
- Scroll down to the images
- Fill in the “Description” field (image caption) below each image
- Click Save
What happens?
The description is automatically converted into an SEO-friendly URL prefix:
- Letters are converted to lowercase
- Spaces are replaced with hyphens
- Danish characters are converted (æ → ae, ø → oe, å → aa)
- Special characters are removed
Example: The description “Red leather jacket ” results in the URL:
/cache/.../roed-laederjakke-fit-500x500x85.png
Tip
The image still retains its numerical ID internally—the description is simply added as a prefix in the URL. So you won’t break anything by adding or changing the description.
