DNS
What is DNS?
DNS (Domain Name System) is the internet's phone book. When you type a domain name in your browser (e.g. minshop.dk), the DNS system looks up the domain and finds the IP address where the server is located. Without DNS, we would remember IP addresses instead of domain names.
DNS records for webshops
When you connect a domain to your online shop, you need to set up DNS records with your domain provider. The main types are:
- A-record - points the domain to an IP address
- CNAME - points a subdomain to another domain
- MX record - controls where emails to the domain are sent
- TXT record - used for verification, SPF, DKIM and DMARC
DNS changes can take up to 24-48 hours to take effect (propagation), although it typically happens faster.
