DNS
What is DNS?
DNS (Domain Name System) is the Internet’s phone book. When you type a domain name into your browser (e.g., minshop.dk), the DNS system looks up the domain and finds the IP address where the server is located. Without DNS, we’d have to remember IP addresses instead of domain names.
DNS Records for Online Stores
When you connect a domain to your online store, you need to set up DNS records with your domain registrar. The most important types are:
- A record – points the domain to an IP address
- CNAME – points a subdomain to another domain
- MX record – controls where emails sent to the domain are routed
- TXT record – used for verification, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC
DNS changes can take up to 24–48 hours to take effect (propagation), although this typically happens faster.
