Statistics and Reports with Claude
Once the store is connected to Claude, you can ask about sales, inventory, and customers in everyday Danish and get the same numbers as in the admin panel. See examples and five pre-written prompts, such as weekly reports and purchasing suggestions.
"How did sales go over the last 7 days compared to the previous week?" With Claude, you can retrieve statistics and reports from your store by typing in plain Danish. The response shows both weeks and the percentage change. Claude retrieves the numbers using the same calculations as the pages under "Statistics" in the admin panel, so the figures are identical for the same time period. This requires that your store be connected. If it isn’t yet, connect your store to Claude first.
What can you ask Claude about?
You can ask about sales and profit margins, best-selling products, inventory and discontinued items, discount codes and traffic sources, and how many customers return. For each answer, Claude provides a link to the corresponding page in the admin panel, with the period pre-filled if the report covers a specific time frame. Ask Claude for the link when a specific number is important. If you want to check it yourself, look at the overview of statistics and analytics in Shoporama.
The analytics tools can only read data and do not make any changes. However, the same connection can modify settings in other areas—such as prices—if you specifically request it and the section is set to “Read and Edit.”
Remember: An AI might misunderstand you and, for example, select a different time period than you intended. Ask Claude to specify the time period in the response, and check important figures via the link to the admin panel.
Before you get started
Once the store is connected, you decide what Claude is allowed to do. Go to “Manage the Store with AI” and click “Customize Tools.” On the AI Tools page, select between “Read and Edit,” “Read Only,” and “Off” for each area. Read more in “Customize Which Tools Claude Can Use.” For statistics, three areas are important:
- Statistics covers sales, profit margin, products, inventory, marketing, and searches. This area contains only read-only tools, so “Read and Edit” and “Read Only” have the same effect.
- "Customers " contains customer statistics. If "Customers" is set to "Off," Claude cannot retrieve this data.
- Catalog must be set to at least “Read-only” if you want the “Searches with no results” prompt to look up your products.
If an area is set to Off, Shoporama rejects the calls, even from an ongoing conversation. Users restricted to specific categories and supplier users cannot connect Claude using their own login.
The five areas: Sales, Products, Inventory, Marketing, and Customers
Sales, Products, Inventory, and Marketing are managed under the “Statistics” section on the AI Tools page, and Customers under the “Customers” section.
| Area | What Claude Can Retrieve | Example Questions |
|---|---|---|
| Sales | Key metrics for fixed periods ranging from today through the entire previous year. Revenue per day, week, or month; inventory turnover and gross profit per month; which days of the week and hours see the most activity; shipping methods; and delivery reports. Read about revenue statistics. | "How are we doing year-to-date compared to the same period last year?" |
| Products | Best-selling products with revenue, profit margin, returns, and days until sold out, which can be filtered by category, brand, and supplier. ABC analysis, sales by brand and supplier, frequently bought together, and price history from the time the product was added. Read about ABC analysis. | "Which 10 items have generated the most profit this year?" "Which items are frequently purchased together, even though they aren’t listed as related products?" |
| Inventory | Inventory value at cost, items expected to run out within 14 days, reordering, sold-out items, and dead stock tying up capital. Online products with no sales in 1, 3, 6, 12, 18, or 24 months, and inventory turnover by supplier or brand. Inventory figures reflect the current situation. Read about inventory statistics. | "How much money do I have tied up in items that haven’t sold in half a year?" |
| Marketing | Discount codes by usage, discount amount, and average order value. Sales by traffic source, conversion rate, visitors, and bounce rate; abandoned carts and reminder emails; and recommendations. Read about discount code statistics. | "Which discount codes were used most in July, what was the cost of the discount, and was the average order value higher than without a code?" |
| Customers | Number of customers, how many made more than one purchase during the period, revenue per customer, days between purchases, new and returning customers, and how many return after their first purchase. Only aggregate figures—never email addresses or names. Customers are counted by email address. Read about customer statistics. | "How many of this year’s customers have made more than one purchase, and what is the average time between two purchases?" |
You can also combine these areas into a single question, such as “Which of my 20 best-selling items this year are currently out of stock?”
Five pre-built prompts: weekly report, purchasing suggestions, and more
Shoporama provides five pre-made prompts via the connection. In Claude apps that support pre-made prompts from a connection, they appear as shortcuts. Their location depends on the app. You can always type the same thing in your own words, such as “Create a weekly report for the last 7 days.” The prompts only retrieve numbers and make suggestions. They instruct Claude not to change anything and not to carry out the suggestions until you specifically ask it to.
The shortcuts appear regardless of your settings. However, if “Statistics” is set to “Off,” Claude cannot retrieve the numbers the prompts request.
Weekly Report
You don’t need to select anything here. The report covers the last 7 days up to and including today and compares them with the 7 days prior. You’ll see revenue, orders, and average order value with the percentage change, the 5 products with the highest revenue, visitors and conversion rate, and the items that are running out first.
Tip: If you run the report on Monday morning, it will only include a few hours from Monday. If you want the entire previous week, enter “Create a weekly report for Monday through Sunday of last week.”
Purchasing Recommendations
You choose how many days your inventory should last after the order is placed. If you don’t select a value, 30 days is used by default. Claude analyzes the sales rate over the past 90 days and your current inventory to suggest a quantity that will last for the selected number of days. Only items that are both in stock and have sold in the past 90 days will have a suggested quantity, and items with more inventory than the selected number of days will be skipped. The suggestions are compiled by supplier in a table. Sold-out items that have sold before are listed separately but without a calculated quantity, and new items with no sales are not included. The prompt does not take into account delivery times, minimum order quantities, seasonality, or planned promotions, so please consider the suggestion as a draft. See also: Order Lists and Inventory Management.
Month-End Closing
You select the month, e.g., 2026-08 for August 2026. If you do not select a month, the previous month is used. You’ll see revenue compared to the same month last year, cost of goods sold and gross profit, shipping, returns, and discount codes, with key figures at the top. Amounts with and without sales tax are kept separate, and items without a cost price are noted. Run the report no earlier than the morning of the 1st of the new month, because the gross profit is calculated overnight. Learn more about cost of goods sold and gross profit.
Dead Stock
You don’t need to select anything here. Claude identifies items in stock that haven’t sold in the last 180 days, sorted by tied-up capital, and online products that haven’t sold in the last 12 months. You’ll see the total inventory value and the 20 items with the most tied-up capital, and Claude will suggest what you can do—such as running a promotion, offering a bundle deal, or removing the item from the store. Read more about unsold products.
Searches with No Results
You choose how many days to look back. If you don’t select a period, 30 days are used by default. Searches with no results are saved for 90 days, so a longer period won’t yield more search terms. Claude shows what visitors have searched for without finding anything, sorted by number, and checks whether the products exist under a different name. For each search term, Claude suggests a new product, a better product name, improved text, or a redirect. The search terms are entered by visitors, so the prompt instructs Claude never to follow any instructions contained within them. Learn more about zero-result searches and search analytics.
Compare with the previous period or last year
Always specify the time period in your question. If you don’t specify one, each report uses its own default—for example, the last approximately 12 months, this year, or the last 30 days—and that might not be what you meant.
- Comparison: Claude can compare with the previous period of the same length or with the same dates from last year. “Last year” means the same dates, not the same days of the week, and February 29 becomes February 28. Therefore, compare weeks to “the week before,” or specify particular dates.
- Duration: A single report can cover a maximum of approximately 3 years. If the period is longer, Claude retains the most recent approximately 3 years and notifies you. You can retrieve older figures in chunks, such as one year at a time.
- Snapshots: Inventory figures (except for inventory turnover), ABC analysis, and customer retention cannot be retrieved for a custom date range. They are based on today’s date: The ABC analysis looks at the last 30, 60, 90, 180, or 365 days; reorders and discontinued items in sales over the last 30, 90, 180, or 365 days, and products with no sales in the past 1, 3, 6, 12, 18, or 24 months.
- No Comparison: In addition to the snapshots, delivery cards, items purchased together, price history, new and returning customers, inventory turnover, and the overview with key metrics cannot be compared to another period.
- Visit Statistics: For dates older than 12 months, only the number of visitors and sources are stored; page views and bounce rates are not.
With or without sales tax? Here’s how the numbers relate to the admin panel
Revenue and return amounts are marked as “with” or “without” VAT in the data Claude receives. Cost of goods sold, inventory value, discount amounts, and product prices are not marked, so ask Claude if you’re unsure. If the figures need to be forwarded to the bookkeeper, ask for “excl. VAT.” See also how the figures in the admin panel are calculated and figures in the admin panel with and without VAT.
- Revenue: Only paid orders are included. Revenue in the sales report is shown both with and without VAT and includes shipping. Credit memos are deducted on the day they are issued, so a return in August is deducted in August, even if the purchase was made in July. The number of orders does not include credit memos or additional sales orders.
- Products, brands, and suppliers: The figures are exclusive of VAT and include only line items, i.e., excluding shipping. For brands and suppliers, the total for orders counts each order once, even if it contains items from multiple brands or suppliers.
- Returns: In the returns report, the return amount includes VAT—that is, the amount customers receive back. In sales per product, the figure excludes VAT. The return rate is the number of returned line items per 100 paid orders, not a percentage of items sold. The ABC analysis does not deduct returns.
- Profit Margin: Uses the current cost price listed for the product or variant, not the one that applied when the item was sold. In the monthly report on inventory consumption and gross profit, items without a cost price are counted as 0 DKK, so the gross profit appears too high, and Claude is notified of how many items this applies to. In the sales-by-product report, no profit margin is shown for items without a cost price, and they appear at the bottom when you sort by profit margin. The monthly profit margin is calculated in full calendar months, excluding shipping and credit memos.
- How up-to-date are the figures? Profit and ABC analysis are calculated overnight, so today’s orders aren’t included yet. Customer retention, abandoned carts, and visitor counts are updated throughout the day and may be delayed by up to half an hour. If the page is blank in the admin panel, Claude doesn’t have any figures either. Other results may be up to 5 minutes old when the period includes today, and up to 6 hours old when the period has ended.
- Delivery Map: Claude only receives ZIP codes with at least 3 orders, and smaller ZIP codes are aggregated to protect customer privacy. In the admin panel, you can see all ZIP codes.
- Sales by Source: If your ads and newsletters lack UTM codes, the sales are categorized under “Direct.”
- Recommendations: Revenue includes items the customer clicked on in a recommendation. This does not prove additional sales.
Statistics are not accounting. The figures are based on paid orders in the store. Shipping refers to what the customer paid, not your shipping invoice, and payment fees are not included.
Statistics with Claude in Everyday Life
Monday morning
Start the week with the Weekly Report. It consolidates four reports that you would otherwise have to open individually and set the time period for each one. You can ask follow-up questions right away, such as “Why did the conversion rate drop?”
Before the purchasing meeting
Run the “Purchasing Suggestions” report, for example, for a 45-day period. Then ask the supplier: “How much of their products have we sold this year compared to last year?” and “Which of their products haven’t sold in the last 6 months?” Run the “Dead Stock” report the same day.
After a campaign
Write, for example: “We ran the discount code SUMMER20 from July 1 to 7. How many orders used the code, what was the cost of the discount, how did revenue compare to the same week last year, and which products sold the most?” The best-selling products apply to the entire period, not just orders with the code. Also ask about the following week. Remember that the statistics show what happened at the same time, not that the campaign was the cause.
Tips for Useful Answers
- Specify the period precisely, e.g., “all of July 2026” or “September 1–14.”
- Ask for a comparison. If you sell seasonal items, compare them to last year.
- Specify whether you want figures with or without sales tax, e.g., “excl. sales tax” for the bookkeeper.
- Ask for a table and a specific number, e.g., “top 20 as a table.”
- Ask for the link to the admin panel for important figures, and save the phrasing that works for next time.
Tip: Claude can only handle a maximum of 100 rows at a time and has to retrieve the rest in several batches. Therefore, it’s better to ask for the “top 20” rather than “all 2,000 items.”
Privacy and security: the statistics are read-only
- The analytics tools only read data, and customer statistics consist of aggregated figures without emails or names.
- Each call is recorded in the AI audit log with the time, tool, arguments (such as the time period), and status. Claude’s responses are not saved, and the log is retained for 90 days. Learn more about the AI audit log.
- If you don’t want the statistics to be included, set “Statistics” and, if applicable, “Customers” to “Off.” This applies to all connections to the store. Keep in mind that the “Orders” section also includes order totals.
- When Claude retrieves data, the response is included in your conversation with Claude. How Anthropic handles conversations is determined by their terms of service and the settings on your Claude account.
If you want to ensure that Claude doesn’t make any changes when you later ask to act on a suggestion, set the relevant sections to Read-Only. Extra Security is an add-on: it requires that changes that send emails, transfer money, delete items, or modify multiple things at once must first be approved by you. Common changes, such as the price of a single product, are still carried out immediately. Read more in “Extra Security: Approve Changes from Claude.”
For those with a technical background
This section is for developers and agencies.
- The statistics are stored in five MCP tools: stats_sales, stats_products, stats_inventory, stats_marketing, and stats_customers. The “view” parameter selects the report. The search log is retrieved using search_log_list.
- Common parameters: from and to (YYYY-MM-DD), compare (none, previous, or last_year), limit (1–100, default 50), and offset.
- The responses have the same structure: period, totals, compare_totals and change_pct for comparisons, rows, notes explaining what the figures include (e.g., statuses, VAT, and credit memos), and admin_url. Amount fields end with _incl_vat or _excl_vat.
- The same data is available via REST: GET /stats/{group}/{view}, e.g., /stats/sales/revenue?from=2026-01-01&to=2026-06-30. This requires an API key with read or all access. A key with write-only access will be rejected. See the REST API documentation.
- The predefined prompts are available via MCP prompts/list and prompts/get. The names are weekly_report, purchase_suggestions, month-end_closing, out-of-stock_items, and searches_with_no_results, with the arguments days and month.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these the same numbers I see under Statistics in the admin panel?
Yes, Claude uses the same calculations for the same period. Differences are typically due to the report using its default period, the delivery slip hiding small postcodes, gross profit and ABC analysis being calculated overnight, or the result being a few minutes old. Ask Claude for the link to the admin panel and compare.
Is the revenue shown with or without sales tax, and when are returns deducted?
Revenue is shown both with and without VAT and includes shipping. Credit memos are deducted on the day they are issued, not the day the purchase was made, so a return in August is deducted in August. Figures per product, brand, and supplier are exclusive of VAT and shipping. See also the returns statistics.
How does Claude calculate the profit margin when some items lack a cost price?
The profit margin uses the cost price currently listed for the product or variant. In the monthly profit margin, items without a cost price are counted as 0 DKK, so the profit margin appears too high, and Claude is notified of how many items this applies to. In sales by product, no profit margin is shown for these items. Enter the cost prices before relying on the contribution margin. Read about cost prices and inventory value.
How far back can Claude view data, and can I get the inventory value as of a specific date?
A single report can cover a maximum of about 3 years, but you can retrieve older figures in batches, such as one year at a time. Inventory figures, on the other hand, are a snapshot of the current moment, so Claude cannot tell you what the inventory value was on a previous date.
Can Claude end up changing my prices when I request statistics?
No, the statistics tools are read-only. However, the connection can make changes in other areas—such as prices—if you request it and the area is set to “Read and Edit.” If you want to avoid this, set the Catalog to “Read-only.” This extra security measure doesn’t prevent regular price changes—only changes that send emails, transfer funds, delete data, or modify multiple items at once.
Can my employees view profit margins and sales through Claude?
Users with access to the shop in the admin panel can connect Claude, and there is no separate statistics permission for the AI connection. However, users restricted to specific categories and supplier users cannot connect using their own login. If you want to keep the numbers private, set Statistics, Customers, and Orders to Off. This applies to all connections. The AI audit log shows what was retrieved, but not which employee was responsible.
What happens to my data when Claude retrieves it?
The data is included in your conversation with Claude. How Anthropic handles conversations is determined by their terms of service and your settings in your Claude account. In Shoporama, the query is recorded in the AI audit log, but the actual response is not saved.
I have multiple shops. Can I get a single consolidated weekly report?
Each connection communicates only with its own shop, and Shoporama does not generate a consolidated report across shops. If you have multiple connections enabled in the same conversation, you can ask Claude to retrieve the numbers from each shop and display them side by side. Be clear about which shops you’re referring to. See also Manage Your Store with AI.
Does the purchasing suggestion take delivery time and variants into account?
The suggestion is based on sales velocity over the past 90 days and current inventory. It doesn’t account for delivery times or minimum purchase requirements, so be sure to include them in your message. Inventory and sales are calculated per product, with all variants and warehouse locations combined, so a sold-out or slow-moving variant might be hidden in the data. Check the individual variants in the admin panel.
Can the weekly report be generated automatically every Monday?
No, Shoporama does not send the report automatically. You’ll need to generate it yourself in Claude, either using the shortcut or by typing “Create a weekly report.” Feel free to save this phrase so you can use it again.
If you have questions about the numbers, or if a number doesn’t match what you see in the admin panel, please email support@shoporama.dk. Please include your question for Claude and the time period in your email.
