Cookie consent and GDPR

Guide to cookie consent and GDPR in Shoporama, including Google Consent Mode v2, cookie categories and revoking consent.

Shopejer

Shoporama has a built-in cookie consent system that complies with GDPR and the EU e-Privacy Directive. It supports Google Consent Mode v2 and gives your customers full control over their cookie preferences.

How it works

When a new visitor comes to your webshop, all non-essential cookies are automatically blocked. A cookie popup appears where the customer can choose:

  • Accept all - All cookies are allowed
  • Reject all - Only necessary cookies are allowed
  • Settings - Select categories individually

Cookie categories

  • Necessary (always active) - Cart, login, language, currency, session
  • Statistics - Google Analytics, Hotjar and other analytics tools
  • Marketing - Facebook Pixel, Google Ads, LinkedIn, TikTok, Klaviyo, Pinterest, Snapchat, Microsoft Ads and others

Google Consent Mode v2

Google Consent Mode v2 is Google's latest consent signaling standard, which is required from March 2024 to properly use Google Analytics and Google Ads.

Shoporama's cookie system automatically sends the four Consent Mode v2 signals to Google:

  • analytics_storage - Google Analytics cookies
  • ad_storage - Google Ads cookies
  • ad_user_data - Sharing user data with Google
  • ad_personalization - Personalized ads

All signals are set to "denied" by default and updated automatically based on customer consent.

Enable Consent Mode

  1. Go to Settings > Tracking
  2. Enable Tracking
  3. Check Use Consent Mode
  4. Save the settings

Withdraw consent

The customer can always change their consent via the cookie icon (🍪) that is permanently displayed at the bottom of the webshop. When consent is revoked, the relevant cookies are automatically deleted.

GDPR compliance

  • Privacy-by-default - all non-necessary cookies blocked from the start
  • Granular consent - customer can select categories individually
  • Active deletion - cookies are removed when consent is revoked
  • No dark patterns - accept and decline have the same visual weight
