Edit product
Guide to the product editing page in Shoporama. Review of all sections: general, descriptions, images, categories, labels, stock, profiles, variants, quantity discount, bundles, credit, extra fields, search, related products, files, subscription, VAT, environment and price monitoring.
When you edit a product in Shoporama, a page opens with a wide range of sections that together control everything from prices and images to SEO, inventory, and environmental data. This guide walks you through all the sections so you know exactly what each field does.

General
The first section contains the most basic product information:
- Name — the product’s title, which appears in the store and in search results.
- Description — a text editor with formatting options, where you can also use the AI assistant to write or improve the text.
- Address (URL) — the product’s URL slug. A good address is short, descriptive, and uses only lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens.
- List Price — the product’s regular price. Displayed either with or without tax, depending on your store settings. There’s a small calculator button that can add or remove tax.
- Sale price — an optional discounted price. When this is filled in, it appears as the current price, and the regular price is crossed out.
- Cost — the purchase price excluding VAT. Used to calculate profit margin and inventory value.
- Supplier — select the supplier the product comes from.
- Brand — select the brand to which the product belongs.
- Online/Offline — determines whether the product is visible in the store.
- Shipping — a fixed shipping rate for this specific product. Fill in this field only if the shipping cost for this product differs from your standard shipping rules.
- Weight in grams — used by shipping rules that calculate based on weight, and for shipping labels.
SEO Fields and Shortcodes
The product has fields for meta title and meta description, which are used by search engines. These fields support dynamic shortcodes that are automatically replaced with current values:
- [PRICE] — the price including tax
- [PRICE_EX_VAT] — price excluding VAT
- [NAME] — product name
- [STOCK] — quantity in stock
- [SUPPLIER] — supplier name
- [BRAND] — brand name
- [YEAR] — current year
- [FREESHIPPING] — free shipping threshold
A Google preview is displayed that updates as you type, so you can see how the product will appear in search results.
More SEO settings under "Fields"
The meta title and meta description are located in the section called Fields. There, you’ll also find a number of other settings that determine how the product appears on Google, on social media, and in your product feeds. In addition to the shortcodes mentioned above, [MONTH] (current month) and [SEASON] (season) also work, both in the meta fields and in the product description itself.
Next to both the title and description is an AI suggestion button that generates a draft for you based on the product’s other information. The preview on the right shows both a desktop version and a mobile version, and it truncates the text to the lengths Google typically displays: approximately 70 characters in the title and 155 characters in the description on desktop, and 65 and 120 characters on mobile.
- Canonical ID: If you have several nearly identical products, you can use this to specify which one is the original. Enter the product’s ID number—that is, the number in the product’s URL in the admin panel—not the SKU number. If you designate a product that is later deleted or taken offline, Shoporama will notify you of this on the front page of the admin panel, where you can reset the reference with a single click.
- Optional Google Shopping Title: An alternative title used only in the Google Shopping feed. This is useful if your store title is short and catchy, but the feed requires the brand, model, and size.
- Google Category: Google’s own category code for the product type. Click “Find” to search for the category instead of looking up the code manually.
- Condition (for Google feed): Select New or Used. This field is included in the feed so that used items aren’t rejected as new.
- Primary Keyword: If you enter a keyword here, the SEO Feedback box expands (a beta feature). It checks four locations, each worth 25 points: the URL, product name, meta title, and product description.
- Open Graph Title and Open Graph Description: the title and text that appear when the product is shared on platforms such as Facebook or LinkedIn. If you don’t fill these in, the standard meta fields will be used.
- Enable “noindex, follow”: Mark products you don’t want to appear in search results, such as duplicates or discontinued models. Shoporama excludes the product from the store’s sitemap.xml, regardless of which theme you use, and most built-in themes (except Washington) also add a “noindex, follow” meta tag to the product page. If you’re using a custom-built theme, make sure it also outputs the meta tag.
- "Hide in Google Shopping feed," " Hide in Partner Ads feed," and "Hide in PriceRunner feed": three separate checkboxes that let you remove an item from one feed without affecting the others. Use them for products with poor coverage or products you’re not allowed to market.
If you want the full picture of how search engine optimization works across products, categories, and pages, read SEO in Shoporama. If you need help with the category code, there’s a separate guide for Google Shopping category IDs on products.
Extensions (from the theme)
If your theme defines additional product fields (extensions), they’ll appear here. These might include fields for controlling layout, badges, or other theme-specific functionality.
How to fill out theme extensions
The section is called Extensions, from your theme, and it only appears if your theme has defined fields for products. If you don’t see the section, your current theme has no extensions. The theme developer determines which fields are available and where they appear in the store. You fill them out, and the theme takes care of the rest.
Depending on the theme, you may encounter these field types:
- Text, long text, and text editor with formatting
- Number, checkbox, and color picker
- Date, and date with time
- Single-selection dropdown and multi-select, where you can check multiple boxes
- Image or multiple images that you upload directly into the field
- Repeat fields where you can add multiple identical blocks, such as a list of product attributes with a title, text, and image. The blocks can be dragged and dropped to arrange them in the order you want
Text fields from extensions are automatically included in the store’s internal search, unless the theme developer has disabled this feature for the specific field. This means that information such as author name or product category can be found by customers, even if it isn’t included in the description itself.
Do not confuse extensions with custom fields: extensions are predefined fields from the theme, while custom fields are your own keys and values. Read more in Theme Extensions and Custom Fields.
Product Images
This section is called Product Images. Upload images in PNG, JPEG, or WebP format. You can upload multiple images at once, and you can drag and drop to change the order. The first image is used as the main image.
Categories
Select the categories in which the product should appear. You can select multiple categories, and you can designate one of them as the main category. The main category is used, among other things, for breadcrumbs and to redirect the customer to the correct location if the product is later taken offline.
Labels
Assign product labels to the product. Labels can be used to filter and group products in the admin panel, and they can be displayed as badges in the store.
Inventory Management
Here you manage inventory-related information:
- SKU — your own product number. The system will warn you if the same SKU is used for multiple products.
- Secondary SKU — an alternative product number.
- GTIN — barcode (EAN/UPC). Important for Google Shopping.
- MPN — the manufacturer’s part number.
- In-stock location — a free-text field to specify where the item is physically located.
- Delivery time — e.g., “1–2 days.”
- Delivery time when out of stock — an alternative delivery time displayed when stock is 0.
Barcodes, EAN, and MPN
GTIN is the item’s barcode number, typically a 13-digit EAN-13. MPN is the manufacturer’s own product number. These two fields resemble the SKU fields, but they serve a different purpose: SKU is your own number, while GTIN and MPN are the numbers by which the outside world identifies the product.
If the product has variants, each variant gets its own row in the table under Inventory Management with fields for stock, SKU, secondary SKU, cost price, location, GTIN, MPN, and minimum stock. If each size or color has its own barcode from the supplier, it must be listed for the individual variant and not just for the product. If you don’t use all the columns, you can hide them using the eye icon in the table header. This applies to all products with the same profile. Your data is saved, and you can restore the column under “Product Profiles” in the settings.
Here’s what you can use the barcode for:
- Product feeds: GTIN and MPN are included in the Google Shopping feed, and GTIN is sent as EAN in the PriceRunner feed. These are the numbers the portals use to recognize the item as the same product that others are also selling.
- Searching in the admin panel: Enter the barcode in the product search, and the item will appear. This also works for barcodes on a variant.
- Searching in the online store: Enable the “Search by name, SKU number, and GTIN” setting in the store’s settings. Then both customers and your own employees can find the product by searching for the barcode.
- Inventory Receiving: On the inventory pages, you can search by GTIN to bring up the item, ready to have the quantity entered. With a handheld scanner, this is quick because the scanner simply enters the number into the field.
- Self-service POS: Customers and employees scan the product’s barcode on their own phone and add the item to their cart.
Make sure the same barcode appears only once. If it appears on multiple items, the system cannot determine which item is being scanned, and the feed risks being rejected.
Profile and Variants
Each product is linked to a profile. The profile defines which variants (e.g., size, color) the product has. You can:
- View and edit prices per variant
- Add new variants directly from the product page
- Change the profile. Please note that all inventory entries will be removed if either the current or the new profile has variants, and that the product’s profile settings will be reset
Quantity and Tiered Discounts
This section includes two types of quantity-based discounts. A quantity discount reduces the price by a fixed amount when the customer purchases more than a quantity you specify—for example, a 20 kr. discount when purchasing 5 or more. A tiered discount lets you specify multiple quantity tiers and a price for each tier. If the product has variants with different prices, the discount is applied per variant.
Bundles
Create a bundle by linking other products to it. When a customer purchases the bundle, inventory is deducted from the linked products. You can search for products and add them to the bundle.
How to put together a bundle
- Select the items. Search for the products you want the bundle to contain. You cannot select the product itself, and you cannot select an item that is already part of a bundle.
- Set the quantity. Next to each item, enter how many should be included in the bundle under “Quantity in Bundle.” Shoporama shows the bundle’s value based on your selling prices and the cost of the items, so you can see how much of a discount you’re actually offering.
- Set the price of the bundle. Enter the price in the “Suggested Price” field under “General,” just as you would for any other product. The price of the bundle is independent of the sum of its parts, so you determine the discount.
- Decide whether inventory should reflect the contents. If you enable the “Inventory status for the bundle should reflect the inventory status of the bundle’s contents” option, Shoporama calculates the bundle’s inventory as the number of complete bundles you can pack from what’s in stock. If you have 10 of one item and 4 of another, and the bundle requires one of each, the bundle’s stock will be set to 4.
When a customer purchases the bundle, the following happens:
- All the items in the bundle are included in the order so the packer can see what needs to go in the box.
- The items are deducted from inventory individually, just as if they were sold separately.
- If an item in the bundle has variants, the customer must select a variant in the store before the bundle can be added to the cart.
- The bundle itself cannot be restricted to specific variants.
- Items in the bundle are not included in subscriptions.
If you have questions about pricing, inventory value, or how the bundle is displayed in the store, there is a detailed guide in Bundles.
Credit, etc.
This section is only displayed if the profile is marked as financial. Here you can:
- Credit to Date — defer payment capture to a specific date in the month.
- Credit in Days — Postpone payment capture by a specific number of days.
- Credit to Specific Date — defer payment capture to a fixed date.
- Credit Note — turn the product into a gift card that generates a unique discount code upon purchase.
Extra Fields
Custom fields are fields you create yourself for each individual product. You’ll find them in the “Custom Fields” text box at the top of the “Fields” section. Here, you enter your own information as a key and value, such as an ISBN number, a material, or a product group, which your theme and product feeds can retrieve. They do not need to be created in advance, and they can vary from product to product.
How to use custom fields
Enter one field per line in the format key, equal sign, and value:
isbn=9788712345678
material=100% cotton
product-group=Fall 2026
The keys are automatically converted to lowercase when you save, so ISBN=... and isbn=... end up as the same field. The value can be anything you need.
Some keys have a fixed meaning because Shoporama reads them itself when building feeds:
- google-custom-label-2, google-custom-label-3, and google-custom-label-4 become Google’s custom labels, for which you can create rules in Google Merchant Center—for example, a campaign limited to products with a specific label. The first two labels are reserved: Shoporama automatically sets them to “on sale” and “bestseller.”
- pricerunner-description, pricerunner-condition, and pricerunner-category override the description, condition, and category for each individual product in the PriceRunner feed.
These custom fields are included when you export your products, and they can be re-imported via CSV, allowing you to populate them for multiple products at once. See Import Additional Fields for Products for the format. Your theme can display these fields on the product page, so that, for example, material or ISBN appears in a small table below the description.
HTML Fields on the Product
At the bottom of the Fields section, you can add raw HTML to individual products. Click Add New HTML Field, give the field a name, and paste your code. For each field, select a placement:
- Do not add automatically: The code is saved, and your theme automatically displays it where it’s needed.
- Insert at the end of <head>: typically used for tracking codes and styles.
- Insert at the end of <head>: typically used for scripts that should run only after the page has loaded.
HTML fields are useful for a size guide, a video, a table of specifications, or a tracking code that should only be included on this specific product. To delete a field, clear the text field and save. Read more in HTML Fields: Insert Cookiebot, GTM, and Other Scripts.
Internal Search
Add optional keywords to help customers find the product using the store’s search function. Enter one word per line. You can also choose to exclude the product entirely from the search.
Related Products
Link related products that appear on the product page (“Other customers also bought” and similar). You can search for products and add them. There is also a section for similar products and reverse-related products (products that are related to this product).
PDFs and Files
This section includes two types of uploads. A PDF can be downloaded by anyone from the product page, such as a product sheet or a manual. A file, on the other hand, can only be downloaded by customers who have purchased the item, so it’s used for downloadable products. Both can either be uploaded directly or retrieved by Shoporama from a URL you enter.
Subscription Settings
If your store supports subscriptions, you can set a special subscription price here, choose whether the subscription runs in days, weeks, or months, and specify the minimum number of hours from order to delivery.
Customs, VAT, and Legal
Here, you can set an optional VAT rate for the product if it differs from your store’s standard VAT rate. In the same section, you can specify the tariff code, customs duty rate, and country of origin for customs purposes; indicate whether the item requires age verification; specify whether it is exempt from the right of withdrawal; and indicate whether a deposit must be added to the price.
Environment, etc.
First, turn on the “Enable environmental data for this product” toggle. You can then enter the information required for EPR reporting:
- Packaging — specify the weight in grams per material (paper/cardboard, plastic, metal, glass, wood, other).
- Electronics (WEEE) —the weight of the electronic device without the battery, and which WEEE category it falls under.
- Batteries — total battery weight, battery type, and whether the battery is built-in or removable.
- General — your manufacturer or EPR registration number, and an internal note explaining the source of the figures.
See also the article Safety Profiles (GPSR) for more on product safety.
Price Monitoring
If you’ve set up price monitoring, you can automatically adjust the product’s price here based on competitors’ prices. Specify an amount to subtract from the lowest price, and set a minimum and maximum price.
Price History
Below the price field in the General section, there is a small link labeled “Price History.” It appears only when price logging is enabled for the store, and it opens the price history page filtered specifically for this product, so you can immediately see how the price has changed over time.
You can turn price logging on and off on the Price History page in the menu. Please note that all previous history will be deleted if you turn logging off again, so leave it enabled once it’s been turned on.
Every time the price or sale price changes, the time, product, variant, and both the price and sale price before and after are saved. The SKU is not saved with the entry but is displayed: it is retrieved from the product when the log is displayed, so if you correct the SKU later, the new number will also appear on the old lines. This happens regardless of whether the change comes from the product page, a CSV import, or the API. On the price history page, you can search by product, item number, or variant, filter by dates, and download everything as a CSV to a spreadsheet.
The log also serves as the basis for documenting the lowest price over the past 30 days, as required by the Omnibus Directive when you advertise a discounted price. How the previous price is displayed in the store and what the regulations require are described in Price History and the Omnibus Directive.
Saving Options
At the bottom of the page, you’ll find several ways to save the product:
- Save — saves the product and returns you to the product list.
- Save and continue editing — saves and stays on the editing page.
- Delete product — deletes the product (requires confirmation).
- Save and view — saves and opens the product in the store (under "More options").
- Save and Add Items — saves and takes you to the inventory addition page (under "More Options").
- Save and add new product — saves and creates a new product (under "More options").
Tip
Use the keyboard shortcut Cmd+S (Mac) or Ctrl+S (Windows) to quickly save the product without clicking.
Navigation
At the top of the page, you’ll find links to inventory transactions, page setup (if your store has a page designer), and view the product in the store. On the right-hand side, there’s a sidebar with shortcuts to the various sections.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between custom fields and theme extensions?
Extensions are pre-built fields provided by your theme, such as a field for a video ID or badge text. They have a label, a field type, and a fixed location in the store. Custom fields are your own notes in the key-value format that you create yourself and that aren’t displayed anywhere until your theme or a feed retrieves them. If you want the information to appear in the store without help from a developer, an extension is the easy way to go.
Do I have to fill in the meta title and meta description for every single product?
No, but how well empty fields are handled depends on the theme. Delaware, DelawareDK, Montana, and MontanaB2B fall back on the product name for the title, and on the name, price, and an excerpt from the description for the meta description. Alaska2 uses the product name as the title but doesn’t display a meta description at all when the field is empty. California does the opposite: the meta description defaults to the product’s description, while the title is simply the store’s name. Start with the items that contribute most to your revenue, or use shortcodes so you can write a single phrase that works for many products—for example, a title that includes the product name, brand, and year. That way, the text updates automatically when the year changes.
Where do I place the barcode when the item comes in five sizes?
On the individual variant. Under Inventory Management, the variants are listed in a table, and each row has its own GTIN field. If each size has its own barcode from the supplier, it should be entered there. The GTIN field at the top of the section is only used when the entire product has a single shared barcode.
Why can’t I select a specific item for my bundle?
Because that item is itself a bundle. A package cannot contain another package, nor can a product contain itself, so both are filtered out of the search. If the contents of two packages are to be sold together, create a single new package instead that includes all the individual items to be included.
Can I document my price changes if an accountant or a regulatory authority asks?
Yes, if price logging is enabled. On the Price History page, you can select a time period, search by item number if needed, and download the list as a CSV file. The file contains the date and time, product, item number, variant, as well as the price and sale price before and after each change. Logging only applies going forward, so it must be enabled before the changes take place.
What does Canonical ID mean, and do I need to use it?
It’s a reference from a nearly identical product to the one you consider the original. For example, if you have two versions of the same product, you can mark one as a copy of the other. If you only have one version of each product, you don’t need to use this field. Remember to enter the product’s ID number, not the SKU number, and that Shoporama will warn you on the front page if the product you’re referring to is later deleted or taken offline.
Customers can’t find the item when they search by barcode. What should I do?
Check the “Search by Name, SKU Number, and GTIN” setting in the store’s settings. If it’s turned off, the store will only search by name and description, so a barcode won’t return any results. In the admin panel, you can always search by barcode, regardless of the setting.
I accidentally turned off price logging. Can I get the history back?
No. When logging is turned off, the recorded history is deleted and cannot be restored. Turn logging back on immediately so that new changes are recorded from now on, and email support@shoporama.dk if you’re unsure what this means for your previous price display.
